Im giving this 4 stars because I have only tried two pumps total. So far (3 mo. in) I have been impressed with this. I didn't realize it was so small when I ordered it, its basically 4x4" and goes off of a charge which is great for traveling. It is comfortable enough and gets the job done quickly, to me it seems very quiet and has all modes you actually need. I do wish the breastmilk cooler were a bit more sturdy but again, gets it done and comes with ice packs. I would and have recommended this to others. Best of luck nursing moms I hope this helped!

I’m a first time mom so nothing to compare this to, but I highly recommend it. It’s so small and my sister said it is really quiet (she used the Spectra). It’s light weight and easy to use. I chose this pump because I plan to pump at work so I wanted something easy to travel with and quiet. I also love the bags it comes with. They have the holes in the top to hang on the pump so you can pump directly into the bag on one side and dump the bottle from the other side in it when you’re done (apparently not all pumps and bags have this feature). The less bottles to clean the better! The only downside I have found is I can’t find nipples specifically for these bottles. I assume there are nipples out there that would fit but I don’t feel like buying and experimenting. Would be nice to be able to pump into these ones and give straight to the baby. Otherwise I’m happy!

The Ameda Joy pump is a great product to have, and gets the job done. But despite the levels available the suction level on just level 1 hurts a lot. For being level 1 it should not be that intense or hurt so much. The Ameda spectra pump I used during my stay in the hospital was amazing, no complaints for that pump. Levels were awesome, I guess I assumed the Ameda joy would be the same.

HygieniKit closed system

This is Ameda's signature feature. The HygieniKit puts an FDA-cleared barrier between your milk and the pump, so milk can't back up into the tubing. The barrier is designed to help protect your milk from bacteria, viruses, and mold, and because milk never reaches the tubing, there's less to clean.

Hospital-strength suction in half a pound

Up to 250 mmHg of suction from a pump that weighs 0.5 lb and measures about 4.3 × 3.6 inches. Clip it to a waistband or drop it in a bag pocket and keep moving while you pump.

Two-phase pumping you can fine-tune

A stimulation phase with 6 levels helps start letdown, then an expression phase with 12 levels takes over for the main session. The pump switches to expression on its own after two minutes, and a backlit LCD timer tracks every session.

Which Ameda breast pump can I get through insurance?

We currently carry one Ameda model: the Mya Joy with Large Tote. It's fully covered on many insurance plans, and some plans add a small upgrade fee. Coverage varies by plan, so the quickest way to know is to check your coverage with us. It takes about two minutes.

What's the difference between the Ameda Mya Joy and the Mya Joy Plus?

Both pumps share the same 250 mmHg maximum suction, 6 stimulation and 12 expression levels, under-45 dB motor, and HygieniKit closed system. The difference is power. The Mya Joy runs on its AC adapter or 4 AA batteries, while the Mya Joy Plus has a built-in rechargeable battery with USB-C charging. We don't currently carry the Mya Joy Plus.

What is the Ameda HygieniKit and why does it matter?

The HygieniKit is Ameda's closed-system milk collection kit. It uses an FDA-cleared barrier designed to help protect your breast milk from bacteria, viruses, and mold, and it stops milk from backing up into the pump tubing. That keeps the motor and tubing clean and means fewer parts to wash after each session.

Does the Ameda Mya Joy have a rechargeable battery?

No. The Mya Joy plugs into the wall with the included AC adapter, or runs on 4 AA batteries (not included) when you're away from an outlet. If a built-in rechargeable battery is a must for you, check your coverage and our team can tell you which rechargeable pumps your plan includes.

What flange sizes come with the Ameda Mya Joy?

The Large Tote bundle includes two each of Ameda's CustomFit flanges in 25 mm, 28.5 mm, and 30.5 mm. A good flange fit makes a real difference in comfort and output, and your size can change over the months you pump, so it's worth re-measuring if pumping starts to feel uncomfortable.

Can I use my Ameda hospital pump parts with the Mya Joy at home?

Mostly, yes. If you used an Ameda pump in the hospital, Ameda says the CustomFit flanges, containers, lids, and tubing are compatible with your personal pump. The valves and diaphragms differ slightly between hospital kits and personal pumps, so Ameda recommends using the ones that came with your Mya Joy.

Is the Ameda Mya Joy a hands-free breast pump?

It's small enough to clip to your waistband, so you can move around while you pump. To pump completely hands-free, pair it with a pumping bra that holds the breast shields and collection bottles in place for you.

Can I get Ameda replacement parts through insurance?
